One Wounded in Shooting Near Hill Country Campus; Suspect in Custody
BULVERDE, TX – A morning of high tension unfolded in Comal County on Monday as law enforcement swarmed the area surrounding a local campus following reports of gunfire. One person was wounded and transported to a nearby hospital, but officials have since confirmed that the threat has been contained
The incident triggered an immediate security response at Hill Country College Preparatory High School, which was placed on a strict lockdown as deputies from the Comal County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Bulverde Police Department arrived on the scene.
Emergency Response and Evacuation
In a letter sent to parents shortly after the lockdown began, Principal Julie Wiley stated that students and staff were moved to secure areas while law enforcement swept the building.
"Our priority is the safety of our students," Wiley wrote. "The building is secure, and we are working closely with the Comal County Sheriff’s Office to manage the situation."
By late morning, the Sheriff’s Office announced that there was no longer an active threat to the public.
Investigation Underway
While details regarding the motive or the identities of those involved remain limited, authorities confirmed that a suspect is currently in custody. The victim’s condition has not been officially updated, though they were conscious when emergency medical services arrived.
The lockdown at Hill Country College Preparatory High School has since been lifted, but the campus remained closed for the remainder of the day to allow investigators to process the scene. Comal ISD officials have announced that counselors will be available for students and staff when classes resume.
This incident comes during a busy month for the district; just weeks ago, a team from the same high school was celebrated for winning the Congressional App Challenge for Texas District 21. Today, however, the community’s focus remains firmly on recovery and safety.
